The Jacksonville Athletic Club has had an extremely busy spring!  We will be updating everyone soon with some highlights from our successful high school and middle school seasons.  Our summer club starts next week, sign up today!

The Jacksonville Athletic Club had a great showing this past weekend in the indoor heptathlon at the Clemson Bob Pollock Invitational.  K'vonte Scott and Kyle Martin both had a tremendous 2 days that led to many personal bests and great competitive experiences.  Results are here.  Highlights included:

Kyle Martin- Kyle came into the weekend with a personal best score of 4683.  This past weekend he went on to set lifetime bests in 5 out of the 7 events!  He ran a PR of 7.38 in the 60m then had some bad luck in the long jump only registering 1 legal jump.  He went on to set a 2 foot PR in the shot put, and then came back to PR in the high jump (6'4")!  On day two he set a .30 PR in the 60mH, set a 7 inch PR in the pole vault, and then ran a great 1000m to end up the day.  Kyle finished 5th in a field of SEC, ACC and post-collegiate decathletes with a new PR score of 5079!

K'Vonte Scott- This was K'Vonte's first indoor meet, and first track meet doing any sort of running event, since 2016.  He had ankle surgery in 2016 and has been through a long recovery process. Unfortunately last week in practice he rolled his other ankle long jumping, so entered this heptathlon with a sprained ankle.  The goal was do the best he could, staying positive, and just enjoy getting back into the competition mode.  His PR going into this heptathlon was 5213.  After running the slowest 60m dash of his life, he came back to long jump a huge jump of 23'7" and then set an indoor PR in the shot put (43'5").  In the high jump he battled through a lot of pain to somehow jump 6'8".  Adrenaline is a heck of a drug.....  After day 1, on an injured ankle, he was able to set a day 1 PR by over 200 points!  On day two he struggled through the hurdles, and then we made the decision to try to vault, seeing if his ankle would hold up.  He was unable to clear his opening bar in the pole vault (14'5") so unfortunately had to withdraw from the competition.  It was a very frustrating situation, but he is finally back competing, and when his ankle heals, there is no doubt he will be able to put up a great decathlon score this summer!

The Jacksonville Athletic Club had a great showing this past weekend at both the Embry-Riddle Indoor/Outdoor Challenge as well as at the JTC Track Meet!  Cool story on FLRunners is here!  Highlights are below:

Embry-Riddle Meet
- We were able to have 5 girls in the top 7 in the pole vault!  Leading the way were Audrey Wuerffel (Harvest) and Madison Murray (Providence) both jumping 10'6" to finish 1-2, and then Lizzie Bechtle (Ponte Vedra) jumping a huge PR of 9'6", followed by Anna Hansen (Ponte Vedra) and Caleigh Furyk (Bolles) both jumping 8'6"!

-In the horizontal jumps, Ciara Mobley (Camden Co, GA) finished in the top 10 in both the long jump and triple jump, while Madison was also able to finish in the top 10 in the long jump.  Both girls did great jumping into a nice headwind!

-Decathlete Kyle Martin had a huge PR in the 60mH, running 8.45.  His previous best was 8.74.  He also set a PR in the discus, and finished 4th in the pole vault!  He will compete next weekend with fellow decathlete K'Vonte Scott at the Bob Pollock Invite at Clemson.

JTC Meet
- 800m runner Amir Warren set a huge personal best in the 400m, running a 51.53.  This was over a 2 second PR!

Next week starts the 1st official week of FHSAA track and field practice, and we can't wait for the season!

We hope everyone had a great Christmas / Holiday as well as a safe and happy New Year! We are currently getting ready for the high school season, as well as preparing for a few more club meets.  Check back here frequently for updates, results, and accomplishments!
